First time Joan Baez concert goer.  Knew she is a legend, didn't fully understand why...  Looked forward to the show all day. Front row tickets have that magic over me...  We knew Joan had canceled a show the previous weekend in nearby Lancaster due to larangytus, so I guess I wasn't expecting too much of her voice.  Have to confess to a certain fascination with her being 59 years old!  I kept thinking that women like her make life a lot easier for females now, 40 years later! (Thanks Joan!)

From the first crystal soprano note, it was clear that whatever "it" is, Joan's got IT!  Her stage persona gave you that feeling that although she's definitely in control of the stage and the entire house, she's also a friend.

Wasn't familiar with any of her songs other than the REALLY famous songs like  "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". You can't go to a Joan Baez show and NOT understand her political point of view.  I could do with a little less politics in my entertainment but alas, I suppose it is the season for politics.

Occasionally, she would pause between songs for a brief cough or a sip of water. Amazing endurance this vocal powerhouse possesses! I kept forgetting she was ill.  She did tell an amazingly candid medical tale of a doctor in Lancaster relieving the pressure of an infected right ring finger she affectionately referred to throughout the night as "Helen".  The doctor apparently lanced the swollen finger which sent  pus flying at a high velocity which even managed to hit the doctor's eye glasses!  Ewwww!  Yes Joan Baez is down to earth.

God speed Joan Baez, and thank you for both an education in politics and a wonderful performance!
