First time visiting the Electric Factory (thought they were just concert promoters)-cool place! Opening act Kim Richey was a pleasant surprise.  To quote my friend who was at the show: "this is the best opening act I've heard since Ry Cooder opened for Eric Clapton at Hershey years ago!"  True.  Definitely check out this artist's music, you won't be sorry.

But should we expect anything less than  a great opening act from Jonatha?  Always the ultimate performer, of course she's gonna find an opening act that sets the mood and doesn't let the audience down.

Probably the first thing to set a positive vibe for a great evening is when Jonatha and band walk out on stage, and it's her REAL band.  Nothing against touring artists versus session artists, it just seemed extra special that we get to see the actual performers who play in her new  DVD!  COOL!  If you haven't seen this DVD yet, walk don't run to her web site and order it now! (www.jonathabrooke.com)  If you're like me, part of the Jonatha charm is her make-ya-feel-like-a-friend story telling.  Well this DVD talks all about the making of her latest album "Steady Pull" and shows lots of cool studio footage.  Bob Clearmountain, perhaps the industry's most touted producer, not at all what I envisioned.  Anyway, get the DVD and check it out yourself.

Back to the concert review.  The sound was big, and JB's voice is soooo strong.  I actually had the sensation of being blown off my bar stool when they played "How Deep Is Your Love".  Feared the guys' voices would overpower JB, but not so.  The sound guys did an excellent job of keeping that crystal clean JB voice the focal point.  Just an overall enjoyable show.

Part of the Jonatha Brooke charm that appeals to me is her storytelling in between songs.  Last night was no different.  Jonatha talked about the 7th grade trials and tribulations - those with and those without titties and blue suede clogs.  Hilarious, charming, and of course a little too close to home.  For the record, I always think Jonatha has the coolest clothes!  Although I was only mildly bummed for like a second when she WASN'T wearing the now famous Starsky and Hutch shirt!

The songs were happening, the bad was great, everything lined up for an all around great show!  I always feel grateful when we are lucky enough to lure Jonatha back to Pennsylvania.  From playing her little solo gigs at Border's over the past few years, to playing a full-on rock n roll show at the Electric Factory... JB is a musician on the move!  Watch her go and come out and support at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, PA on July 1st.

Note: at the T-shirt kiosk after the show... a new Jonatha Brooke T-shirt playing off the Jennifer Lopez "J-Lo" thing...  They were selling a shirt that said  "J. Bro" .   How cool is that?  And in dark print it said  "How deep is your love?"  Very Cool.  Wonder if they could make a Starsky & Hutch-esque looking T-shirt that says Jonatha Brooke instead? You know, little tiny shirts for us little gals who were never quite lucky enough to have boobs soon enough to join "Titty Talk" in 7th grade?

Keep up the great work JB!  You deserve the finest rewards for your hard work! Bad Dog Records rules!
